Our "Why".
Growing up in the Midwest in the 80's and 90's, I learned early in life how American hardware ingenuity and manufacturing prowess used to be second to none. As the son of a proud Navy radioman who worked as an Electrical Engineer in both the naval avionics and US auto industries throughout his career, I also learned from my dad just how important the domestic supply chain and domestic production are to both our national security and economic security for the long term. Over the last 4 decades, the US economy has changed dramatically. Domestic production slowly eroded, and while the geopolitics of this might be quite complex, the net impact is that we are less resilient to supply chain disruptions as a country, and this creates risk that hits all of us in the pocketbooks every day, and it also jeopardizes our national security.
Flash forward to today -- as an engineer myself who has designed, managed, and built some of the coolest and most innovative products on the planet for more than 25 years -- I am excited to take concrete steps now to help rebuild domestic product development and domestic production. Today, vigilant.engineering is a Seattle-based product development firm focused on supporting OEMs and device makers who are designing and building some of the most important future-forward hardware on the planet. Our focus is on dual-use products -- primarily in the defense, robotics and IoT space.
